An artist named Elena Mary Siff gave me a link to animoto and I created a short video using them. I have been wanting to play on Youtube for some time, but I am frightened of video making. (really, I have no idea what to do) .. so through them, I was able to make something short- yet groovy. Check it out HERE! Please leave comments - but good ones like "Wow, this is awesome" or "I almost peed my pants with delight when watching this amazing video" or something like "perfect" would work too.

So I just finished another digital hybrid piece. I took this one from my original postcard sized drawing entitled "Everything seemed ok, until...". I believe that I will have various versions of this one over time so I decided calling them "versions" to signify that there are changes in the works. I, of course, was inspired by all the 'version' this and 'version ' that in regards to programs.

There are a few reasons that I have become interested in working digitally. Of course, there is the desire to try new things and push my work to be more than it has been. But, there is also the idea of the preciousness of art. This last summer, I had a flood in my bedroom and studio. It was horrible and I ended up having to throw many supplies and works out. That experience has had me thinking about how easily things can be lost and the price put upon them. In experimenting digitally with my 'precious' drawings I am allowing them to exist in a different form and in the even of another disaster - they will be safe in one form or another! Also, the idea of the preciousness pushes me to digitally destroy some of the details in the drawings that I was so proud of. I can smudge and color and add pixels to my drawings.

One last thing in regards to the price of art. I have enjoyed selling work to people who have paid a lot for a painting (I especially like those sales in that they help me pay my car payments). One of my favorite sales was one in where I sold a small drawing to a farmer in overalls. I loved it. I loved that a working "class" person in overalls bought one my drawings! Being from small town Iowa, I know that farmers are not the biggest buyers of art. So, in creating digital works I make my work more available to people. People a little more like myself. Doing this also allows people to invest in my work and not feel that they have to buy a million dollar frame to hang it in. In fact, I really like some of the ideas in this article on Etsy about ways to hang work and I thought I should link it for you.

I have decided to take the plunge into placing reproductions and digital/drawing hybrid art into my etsy shop. The above image is one of my "hybrid" pieces.. it was originally a drawing that I have played with digitally. I really have always enjoyed that in drawing there is a certain crudeness of the image - a mark made through the force of a human hand is organic and imperfect compared to a computer generated line. One thing I have been experimenting with over the last year is the digital image. In working with so many digital images, I have found the line to be too perfect - that organic feel was not there. I have, however, been interested in the idea of multiples and the ability to alter an image digitally. I have also been interested in so my images that have not been so "perfect" - those images that come out all fuzzy and the color off.
So, I decided to combine my drawing and digital prints. I have been taking my drawings that I had thought of as finished pieces and have been running them through changes digitally. In this piece, I have added color and changed contrasts and allowed a small amount of pixalation (hmm is that even a word?) to occur without overwhelming it. I really like how I can create something that can be held physically in my hand - and have that image changed so with each alteration it becomes less of that original idea, yet maintains the original style. This allows me to play with the idea of what is a print versus what is a reproduction.
Currently, I am in the process of adding the above image along with some others and reproductions to my store. My shop can be found at lundberg.etsy.

yeah, things aren't going so well at the moment.. I have not been able to be in the studio and just can't seem to draw at the moment... blech. I will have to add that link later since I am using the Hospice internet here and it won't load their page :( ..... but I just can't get any art made recently.. too hard right now. I have so much to do.......

off track

Things are very much off track at the moment.. my Mom is going to die very soon.. I spend my time with her at hospice and I can't get anything done. So, it will take some time, but I will eventually be able to get back to work... and this time allows me to think of new directions and I have several new ideas.. I just don't have the time or energy to do them at the moment. But, when she is gone I know she would want me to get back to work asap.. and I will- just as soon as I can get back on track.

Currently I am working on about 5 drawings - all surrealist in nature, as well as my projectfifty-two pieces. (if you are unaware of that project - you can look under my profile and link to it) I am very excited about one in particular that I started this week.. I hope to get pics on here soon. I also am in the midst of about 4 paintings. I hope to finish them soon - but having to sleep in the same room as I work with no real easel or table makes it frustrating at times - but I will finish them ...hmm maybe I'll do some art about my living conditions - that is a series all in its own ... ha ha.

O.K. keep checking back...I'll have plenty of work to show and hopefully plenty of sales on etsy to brag about....

ok so I have just completed some mail art for some fellow etsians. I hope to mail in the next day or two (after spraying and affixing fancy superhero stamps). I can't wait to see what I get back. I love mail art.
The picture above is one I drew a little while back and affixed to a painted board. I just felt like putting it on here. I did a lot of this type of thing over the last year, drawing - cutting - fixing to boards. hmmm I wish I could do this on a 6' canvas. I wish I had a place to work on a 6' canvas. that would be awesome.
I also found some designer purses at the goodwill a while back - I hope to begin painting monsters on them soon.

ok so I had to move suddenly due to a family crisis. I will be posting new work as soon as I get settled...the good thing about this move is that I have a space to work again - no more working off of a t.v tray while sitting on my bed - yeessssss!

I have worked in far too many cubicles in my life. I believe the biggest thing lacking in cubicles today is art. People in cubicles are hard working people - they are intelligent people - cubicle people need amazing art on their desks. Why save the best art for large corporate collections, museums, or the homes of the rich. Now is the time to rise up cubicle workers - rise up and place art on your desks - cubicle art.

so... anyway, I have been working on art made especially for the cubicle...that is one of the various things I have been doing...

Ok so I finally added gimp to my laptop... and I have been wanting to alter some of my traditional work..so I did and here it is... I have added the image to my new shop on Red Bubble ...so I added a couple of other pieces on there - basically, my red bubble site is for cards, posters, etc,,,, but I am keeping my original works at etsy....

I am getting more and more well.. for a while there I was thinking I was going to fall over dead - I had not been so sick since.. well forever I guess. So I am germ free(ish) and I went in the studio today for the first time in forever.. this is a pic from a work in progress.. part of project fifty-two. I am leaving a large amount of negative space on these drawings.. in fact, I am really into absence these days.

I haven't been making much - well nothing this week cuz I am sick. Not only sick, but uninsured. I have a massive eye infection that I thought was pink eye (a dreaded thing, I had always been afraid of getting, but never had gotten) - but I am rather sure it is some mysterious and exotic eye disease and any moment my right eye will fall from its socket into my chicken noodle soup- causing me great pain and a future dislike of chicken noodle soup. But, the reality is that my eye is massively painful and without insurance there is not much I can do except hope one of these days it will stop looking like I was punched in the face. Until that day, I cannot touch my pencils as I do not want to infect them with this dreaded disease - and I must keep out of the studio for it is a sacred place. And most importantly, I will remember how much pain and stress this is causing me when I go to the polls......
p.s. Although I have photographic evidence of my intense eye sickness, I will not add it to the blog - it is too traumatic and not for the faint of heart..... I shall think only of you by not adding such terror to the Internet. (But I see it most definitely as a subject matter ......)

see, I have been thinking a lot about identity and how on the Internet it is so easy to recreate yourself. So, I took various aspects of my own work that I have seen emerging over the last year and those things that have remained constant and decided to put them into their own identities. for instance, I have been working on walking trailers and cabins so it only felt right to create someone named Lee Greene who specializes in them.

anyway, I have created the identities and made mail art in each of their 'styles' with an address on the back of each to reference to their blog. The idea that part of the work resides online and in the form of a blog is something I am just now working with and will see how it goes. I got the idea from a show I was in recently that was solely based on the Internet. The piece I had in the show was an actual painting, but the actual painting was never shown - simply an image of it. This was especially interesting since at the opening there were multiple large screens projecting the work without any physical work being present.
so then there is the mail art aspect of the show. Since leaving Memphis, i have moved 3 times and 2 out of the 3 places where tiny 1 room deals.. the physical space I have had to work in over the last year or 2 has caused me to think small in my work. I had been doing mail art for some time now, and keeping in mind the place I was showing, mail art seemed the perfect thing. I must say also there is a personal connection as well since my father has worked at the post office for 34? years now and used to tell me about postcards he would see going through the machines.
Ok, just wanted to clarify why I make so many blogs and oh, by the way, if you are in Memphis check out the show it runs through September and i am still mailing work.. so it will be changing.

ughh.. I am sooo tired. I worked on 27 drawings today - projected photos for the projectfifty-two (see my other blog on this via my profile if you are not familiar) I am also hunting for better lighting to photograph my drawings for the 100 I am working on for the meet me in may.. and of course the mail art - well, i did not work on that today - but i did think about it.

I also spent time removing pencils from Jillian Jones Appalachian Highway Dog's mouth. freaking dog loves the taste of ebony pencils. i don't let her in the studio, but i do draw a lot in bed and well, pretty much all over .. so she hangs around and scouts the pencil collection.... she also steals kneaded erasers and I sometimes find her flinging them in the air in some odd game she plays. I dunno, maybe she just wants to draw....

When I graderated, I had to put all of my thesis work in storage - thinking that I would be able to get it in a month or two after buying a home. well... things never really worked out that way.. I wasn't able to get the work out until 2 years later (and I never did get the house). So, then I got it out.. worked forever getting settled and then the stupid flooding happened- and happened again.. and for the last few months my work has been stacked in the garage till I could get the studio fixed. Finally, I am getting things together, but there is too little room! I am constantly making something new, yet I have too much of the work from my thesis. ugh. I have decided to try my hardest to home much of it and have placed it online in my etsy shop.
It is so funny how I think some of the art is so "old" and already been seen - yet no one aside from those at the show(s) has seen it... weird how I sometimes feel like my art is like cake - expiring and molding over time - but the truth is art is more like plastic fruit.

So I am sitting here with 8 windows open working on 6 different things, a pile of drawings to my right, a pile of undrawn on paper to my left and a large stack of Pepsi cans surrounding me like a fort. I am working on many drawings and also working on cleaning out old ones from the studio at the same time.. this is great to do for anyone with attention problems.

and the whole time I am working on this, I am thinking of how I was suppossed to be in Memphis right now - but I couldn't afford the stupid gas to get there.

soooooo last week in the midst of bad weather (including tornadoes) I noticed a small lake was forming in my home... a small lake that flowed right on into the studio. My family has owned this home for 25 years and never has it been like this. I have made no art in the last week - I have spent my time scooping water, bleaching floors, moving things to safety, tossing damaged things, and ripping up the entire floor. Fun. I had to toss out some old paintings (apparently the water was a critic and picked the old - bad paintings so it is ok), but the drawings I had to toss out were painful. I had an entire series I had to throw out. My studio is in a lower level and in a place that had always been safe - even in the 93 flood. But, this rain has just been too much and the entire neighborhood - city - state - region has been affected.. and will continue to be... so anyway, I am sure I will soon be painting flood and storm related work.. but it wont be for a bit. Right now I spend my time patching, bleaching, and keeping watch whenever it rains - my only weapon a 2 gallon shopvac and a large stack of beach towels. I can't wait to get back to work. I will post when I do. Until then, I can only hope things stay dry and that all of the people in the Midwest who are flooding and will be flooding stay safe.

I have been working on soft sculpture monsters.. I don't have any pics yet,, but is one of my new obsessions. I am not a sewer either.. I have stabbed my fingers many times.
I was suppossed to have a show.. but I got all my work there and then it turns out they are doing construction in the building and were planning on putting a hole in the gallery wall.. so I packed up my things and no show. I have been in a bad mood because if it .... I have been taking out my wrath on my blogs... by ignoring them. anyway, I haven't wanted to paint or draw recently - I am digging the material. I wish I knew how to weld. I am such an idiot cuz I could have learned in Memphis.. if I knew how to weld.. I could be welding right now.
I did an interview for a blogger. I am not good at interviews,, I have done a few - I think I come off as a big dork..I keep thinking I will get better at them - maybe when Time interviews me I will be better at it.
